Frightfully Delicious Dogs

Ingredients

12 hot dogs (can use vegetarian dogs, like Smart Dogs)

1 can of Pillsbury breadsticks

 Ketchup and mustard, as desired

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

Open can of bread sticks and separate into 12 long strands of dough.  Starting at the top of the hot dog, wind the dough around the hot dogs, tucking the end at the bottom.  Place on a rimmed baking sheet and bake for approximately 20 minutes, until the bread sticks are lightly browned.  Serve immediately with ketchup and mustard and homemade chips.

 Homemade Chips

 Ingredients

3-4 russet potatoes, peeled and sliced very thin

Peanut oil for frying, about 2 inches in dutch oven or large, heavy saucepan

Preparation

Peel and slice the potatoes and pat dry with a paper towel to absorb any moisture.  Heat oil temperature to approximately 350 -360 degrees F and be careful not to get the temperature too high.  Slowly drop into the oil small batches of the potatoes; don’t overcrowd or that will lower the temperature of the oil and the chips will not will fry properly.  Fry the chips until they are a light golden brown and remove with a slotted spoon to a plate lined with paper towels.  Continue to fry in small batches until all chips are fried.  Sprinkle lightly with kosher salt, if desired.
